Academically Driven

While preserving traditional moral and religious values and meeting the new ethical challenges from tomorrow’s increasingly secular society, dedicated professional teachers and staff place an emphasis on critical thinking skills, problem solving, and decision making. 99% of graduates further their education after high school receive post-secondary scholarships. More than half the student body achieves honors or high honor roll distinction, while many are enrolled in College in High School courses, honors courses, Advanced Placement courses or dual enrollment with Parkway West Career and Tech Center. Graduates are attending schools such as Notre Dame, Johns Hopkins, Carnegie Mellon, Due, Georgetown, Penn State and the University of Pittsburgh.

Rooted in Faith

At Bishop Canevin High School, we believe that Faith is the foundation of a fulfilling life. That’s why we start every day with prayer and offer endless opportunities for our students to grow in their faith. Our Theology courses provide a deep understanding of the Catholic Faith and how to apply it to daily life. Our Campus Ministry is highly active and offers a variety of meetings and activities for students to get involved in. Our Chapel is open daily for students to spend time with God, and we hold weekly mass and adoration. As a Crusader, your child can participate in our Mass as a Eucharistic Minister, Joyful Spirit Singer, or Reader. Our goal is to equip your child with the tools and knowledge to spread God’s love and live out Jesus’ mission, both inside and outside of the classroom. Join us at Bishop Canevin High School for a Faith-filled education that will prepare your child for a bright future.

Faith in Action

Individualized Approach

Bishop Canevin seeks to develop the entire student – mind, body and spirit — but also recognizes the need to foster a sense of self-worth. Its unique “house system” ensures that students feel a part of a community but can function on their own, such as being the only gymnast in the school or being a member of a local performing arts studio. Each student has the opportunity to design a school schedule of courses that fits his/her needs and interests while still meeting all state educational requirements. Extra-curricular activities, enriching educational courses, and challenging athletic programs nurture each student independently to become creative and compassionate. No talent goes unnoticed. The full range of curriculum offers opportunities for students with varied learning styles and abilities.

Future Focused

90% of students regularly take part in school or sports activities, such as receiving entrepreneurial experience running Betsy’s Place (the school’s morning café), operating our TV/recording studio, taking STEM courses including Principals of Engineering and AP Computer Science, working in the Innovation Center, or designing exercise in the Fitness Center. Competitions at the State level as Future Business Leaders of America (FBLA) or with Honors Speech and Debate promote achieving at the highest level. A tradition of diversity and multiculturalism is reflected not only in our enrollment of students coming from the City of Pittsburgh and 18 suburban school districts, but also in the success that parallels the achievements of our students, building a community for today and the future of faith, knowledge and service. All students are helped to discover the greatness in them so they are prepared for a successful and rewarding life after graduation.

Making a Difference

Every student truly embodies the mission entrusted by Jesus to his church by volunteering at least 25 hours a year with outside organizations. A week-long mission trip is annually conducted in the summer, taking students all over Washington, PA to work with the elderly, assist at food banks, beautify homes and landscapes or help organize items at thrift stores. A sense of awareness, social responsibility and caring for the less fortunate is taught as Christ has called us to love one another with community service which, in the words of Pope Francis, is the authentic power to heal and to embrace the hungry, the thirsty, the stranger and all those in need of help. In-school projects have ranged from collecting Toys for Tots at Christmas to bringing in baby items to support the Brown Mamas organization, and more throughout the year.
