"Self-sacrifice is the real miracle out of which all the reported miracles grow."
Emerson
In our Winter, 2006 issue of the Crusader Journal, we briefly outlined a four year “Golden Crusade” of self-sacrifice we’re asking everyone in the Bishop Canevin community to join - students, parents, alumni and friends – leading up to our 50th Anniversary in 2009.
Throughout that special issue, a common theme of self-sacrifice was woven into nearly every page such as:
- The ultimate self-sacrifice Ryan Kovacecik, '01 gave to his county and to all of us
- The self-sacrifice and unfailing love Sr. Judy has given to God and Bishop Canevin
- The self-sacrifice and commitment of enthusiastic and caring faculty - some who have given 30+ years of their professional life to BC
- The self-sacrifice of parents who do whatever it takes to be able to send their children to BC because the value the "BC Spirit and Experience" over that of free public education
- The self-sacrifice of an anonymous non- alumni "Guardian Angel" donor whose financial support has helped make tuition affordable to financially struggling families who value a BC education
- The self-sacrifice of many grateful alumni who unselfishly give their valuable time and financial support to BC without reservation or hesitation
We’re calling on the entire BC family of alumni and friends to help us re-imagine, reunite and reinvest to rebuild our school in a remarkable way - to continue our mission of inspiring good kids to be great leaders in the classroom, on the field, in our community and throughout the world.
Please Join Our Golden Crusade.
You are a significant part of our past and we need you to become a significant part of our future if we are to succeed.
How can you help? Make a meaningful sacrifice.
It’s really quite simple.
- Choose Bishop Canevin as one of your key select charities and commit to giving a minimum of $50 to $5,000 (as much as you reasonably can) to our Crusader Spirit Fund each year for the next four years. Our Spirit Fund provides financial support to keep our doors open, pay for utilities and cover general maintenance and repairs. Please click here to make your holiday donation now.
-
Commit to financially supporting at least one select renovation and/or improvement project such as our new memorial park in front of our school featuring a Grotto, a meditation/prayer Labyrinth and memorial benches and bricks. Or, assist with the renovation of our Science Labs - Dr. David Blandino, '70 and Gusty Kairys, '75 are co- chairing the initiative and putting together an alumni "dream team" to rebuild our Science Labs for future generations of students and Alumni.
- Reconnect with the school by attending an athletic event, school play, Crusader Auction, Alumni Golf Outing, Homecoming Tailgate Party etc., and become a BC ambassador of goodwill to everyone you meet by enthusiastically communicating the benefits of our "BC Spirit."

Turn Your Sacrifice into a Blessed Miracle!
How about instead of calling our Crusade a sacrifice, let’s call it a MIRACLE?
We humans are the only animals that can willingly do what we don't want to do. That is a miraculous power and self-sacrifice is the miracle that makes all great things possible.
Sacrifice! The very word means, ‘to make holy.’
For you “flower children” of the 1960’s who had the privilege of learning Latin, you should remember that ‘sacra’ means ‘holy’ and ‘ficio’ means ‘to make.’
In other words, sacrifice means ‘to make holy.’ So, when you make sacrifices, you are sanctifying your actions and whenever you raise yourselves and others to a higher level, you are bringing yourselves closer to our God.
So, rather than looking at your sacrifice as something negative, look at it as a miracle, a holy mission, a heroic gesture, a joyous, creative act, the means to our goal, an investment in our future, and a step to our renewed greatness.
Look at it as a commitment and determination to help us succeed and preserve your legacy. When you look at it in these ways, it becomes more palatable. When seen in this light, you will discover that your sacrifice is not about your loss but about your gain and our gain together.
A blessed miracle – a holy crusade.
