Art

The Art Department courses provide the opportunity for students to learn about and then creatively express themselves through a large variety of art methods and hands-on use of materials. Basic concepts and historical overviews are presented in all of the courses where students have the use of two large art rooms, with equipment ranging from potters’ wheels to enameling kilns.

Bishop Canevin offers a 4-year consecutive program of art electives that may be taken by general and serious students who meet the class prerequisites. Classes on the sophomore, junior, and senior levels meet every day of the week/cycle, allowing for the creation of many different projects. Courses cover the elements and principles of design along with the 4 major areas of drawing, painting, sculpture, and printmaking, giving all students a firm foundation to develop their artistic skills. Students use a variety of materials and supplies for projects in ceramics, drawing, crafts, textiles, painting, stained glass, etc. Students not able to take an art class during the school day may choose to join the Art Club. The club meets one day a week after school and is open to every student at BC. All of the equipment and supplies of the art rooms are available for the art club use.
