This year Bishop Canevin enrolled its largest freshman class in the past nine years. Students seeking admission should take the placement exam and have academic records and principal recommendation forwarded to Sr. Judith Worden at Bishop Canevin High School, preferably by the end of February. After a full review by the admissions committee notifications of acceptance are mailed to students and parents. Sr. Judith and Ms. Mary Burello, freshman guidance counselor, will set up appointments at the grade school to register incoming students for courses.
Admissions are based upon a review of the qualifications of each applicant. Decisions of acceptance and placement are based upon:
- Scores on the Placement Test
- Academic performance in the 7th and 8th grades
- Recommendations from principals/teachers
- Scores on standardized tests
- Interview with student and parent(s)
Dear Students and Families,
Welcome to the Bishop Canevin High School community. We are extremely proud of the young men and women who have chosen this high school. They are gifted students, dedicated leaders, talented athletes, and caring, moral individuals. Our exceptional administrators, teachers, staff, moderators, coaches, and parents work collectively to create an environment for our students that is anchored in faith, enriched by learning, and enhanced by service.
Our beautiful tree lined campus is safe and secluded, but only minutes from major Pittsburgh routes, making our school accessible to families from many surrounding communities. Our facilities have recently been enhanced by the creation of “Triumph Park” at the entrance to the school with additional beautification projects and laboratory renovations planned for this year. Our technology department continues to serve as an impressive model of support for academic study and learning enhanced by educational systems. Accelerated learning classes allow students to advance academically through Honors level courses, complimented by College in High School and Advanced Placement classes.
We welcome qualified students who will not only benefit from the richness and tradition of our educational opportunities, but will also contribute actively to the continued growth and strength of our school as we prepare to celebrate our 50th Anniversary during the 2008 – 2009 school year.
I encourage you to take advantage of the many opportunities we offer to become more familiar with the Catholic community at Bishop Canevin High School and our quality college preparatory curriculum. I look forward to assisting you in the admissions process.
